Una vez más Hollywood celebró el cine a lo grande y esta vez dio qué hablar. La 89º edición de los Premios de la Academia transcurrieron en una extensa ceremonia animada por Jimmy Kimmel. Pero cuando todo parecía ir acorde a las predicciones, los eventos tomaron un giro de los más inesperado.
Como suele ser habitual, el plato fuerte quedó para el final de la noche con el premio a Mejor Película. Pronto los actores Warren Beaty y Faye Dunaway anunciaron los nominados y dieron a conocer al ganador: La La Land. La muchedumbre subió al escenario y los discursos de aceptación cesaron, el ganador estaba equivocado. La mejor película no era La La Land, sino Moonlight. Finalmente el drama dirigido por Barry Jenkins se coronó como la Mejor Película en los Premios de la Academia.
Claro que el musical de Damien Chazelle no se fue con las manos vacías. De las 14 nominaciones, la cinta se quedó con 6 premios, incluidos Mejor Director, Mejor Banda Sonora, Canción Original, y por supuesto, Mejor Actriz para Emma Stone.
Como era de esperar, Casey Affleck se llevó el galardón a Mejor Actor por Manchester by the Sea. Filme que también se quedó con el premio a Mejor Guión Original.
Por el lado de las actuaciones secundarias, Viola Davis se quedó con su primer Oscar por su rol en Fences; mientras que Mahershala Ali se consagró como el Mejor Actor de Reparto por Moonlight, que también se llevó el galardón a Mejor Guión Adaptado.
Este año la ceremonia fue excesivamente larga, aunque no del todo tediosa gracias a algunos momentos graciosos de la mano de su anfitrión. Sin embargo, los buenos momentos de la gala se vieron opacados por el bochornoso final que dejó a más de uno preguntándose qué estaba sucediendo.
