En el día de hoy se llevaron a cabo los EE British Academy Awards, también conocidos como Premios BAFTA. La ceremonia fue nuevamente conducida por el veterano Stephen Fry desde el Royal Opera House en Londres.
La gran ganadora de la noche fue Gravity, la película dirigida por Alfonso Cuarón que se terminó con 6 premios de sus 11 nominaciones, incluyendo Mejor Película Británica, Mejor Director y Mejores Efectos Visuales. Por su parte, 12 Years a Slave, la otra aparente favorita, sólo logró 2 estatuillas pero en las categorías más importantes, Mejor Película y Mejor Actor Protagónico para Chiwetel Ejiofor. Y por último, la otra gran candidata, American Hustle, sólo destacó en algunas categorías menores, y en Mejor Guión Original y Mejor Actriz de Reparto para Jennifer Lawrence. Como no podía ser de otra forma, Cate Blanchett resultó Mejor Actriz por su interpretación en Blue Jasmine, y dedicó su premio a su amigo y reciente fallecido, Philip Seymour Hoffman.
La Academia británica también otorgó honores a la actriz Helen Mirren y al director Peter Greenway. La veterana actriz fue consagrada con el Fellowship Award, un premio a la trayectoria y uno de los más altos honores que entrega la academia, mientras que Greenway fue reconocido con el Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema, por sus contribuciones al cine británico.
