En el día de ayer el Cine Independiente celebró su noche de premios, los Independent Spirit Awards, que tradicionalmente se entregan un día antes que los Oscar. De todas las cintas nominadas, la película El Artista terminó con cuatro premios incluyendo mejor película, mejor director para Michele Hazanavicius, mejor actor para el protagonista Jean Dujardin, y mejor montaje.
El largometraje de Alexander Payne, Los Descendientes, que contaba con cuatro candidaturas, logró llevarse el premio a mejor guión y mejor actriz de reparto para Shailene Woodley. Por su parte, Christopher Plummer volvió a quedarse con la categoría de mejor actor de reparto. Mientras que Michelle Williams fue reconocida como la mejor actriz por su interpretación en Mi Semana con Marilyn. A continuación la lista con todos los ganadores:
